What are my thoughts for Globaloria?

I am excited about Globaloria. I think it has the potential to be the most desirable class in our school! My concerns are minute. They involve technical problems and application holdups. The technical problems would be out of my control. What would we do with the students' time if the computers were down? Also, if we come to a stopping point, will we be able to solve our problems in a timely manner. I wouldn't want to lose the students' enthusiasm and interest. Those are the small issues I anticipate.

Students will loose their attention as they go through different events and activities. However this class by nature keeps the students' attention. They want to be able to create the "cool" things they other students are creating. If the computers are down the students can still work on Flash. I have also used the time for group discussions about ethic use of the Web.

Here are some ideas that you could work with when the net/comp is down:

1. To have students reflect where they are sometimes when the computers are down. Especially when there are more than two or three groups working at the same time its challenging to share information on what is happening to everyone in the class. You could use this time to help them all respond to each others problems and concerns and things that could be improved or changed. Or something exciting that they would like to share with each other that might help them.

2. They could also work on more research by going to the library and looking up information that might be related to the games they are developing.

3. Talking about ethically web use is good

4. Talking about opportunities after taking this class how they can use it or how it can help them in future.

5. Help them improve their presentation skills

6.Organize some team building activities.
